Kiss and Winson held a small ceremony at Swiss Grove park in Whittier, CA. The day was a beautiful bright blue day with out a cloud in the sky. Southern California’s summer just starting(kind of late) so the heat was on. When we first discovered the small unique details of the wedding, I laughed. Hello Kitty was EVERYWHERE. Coming from a design back round, I work with designing Hello Kitty confectionaries for Latin America so I was kind of tired of seeing the cat.

The day went off with out any problems. To my surprise the wedding was on time and actually ended a little early. Allowed us a little extra time to grab a few more shots and laughs.

Once again, congratulations Kiss and Winson for this special moment in both your lives!

We’ve had our hands full the past few weeks so posts have been sparse. Here are some highlights from Kevin and Jamie’s engagement shoot. First off the bat, you can tell the two are just perfect for one another in the way they interact with each other. The way they interacted in front of the camera made it for a fun and seamless shoot.

Me and the crew met the couple at Torry Pines beach here in La Jolla. The day was a even overcast with a light breeze. Thank you San Diego! Fantastic conditions for a engagement shoot. We really couldn’t have asked for a more perfect shoot.

Although the natural beauty of the beach is more then enough to draw us out to this location, what really caught our eye was the great architecture of the concrete bridge on the far end of the beach.

We started the shoot by the bridge. Couples are always nervous about being in front of the camera, but Kevin and Jamie’s genuine affection towards one another took down those worries in an instant. After Torry Pines Beach, we headed towards Del Mar, another one of our favorite locations and got some great shots there. We had a blast photographing the two of you. Kevin and Jamie, hope you enjoy the pictures! We are looking forward to photographing your wedding!

In warm and sunny San Diego, there aren’t many places that feel as cozy as Del Mar. With its balmy ocean breezes and laid back beach community atmosphere, it was a perfect place to photograph this engagement shoot. We walked down Del Mar by the coast, past its art galleries, charming little shops and restaurants until we reached Seagrove park by the ocean.

Georgia and Steve met us at Seagrove park. We took a stroll through town, walked along the beach, and got some great shots. It’s always amazing to see how a couple’s personality shows through in their photographs. You can see that these two are a fun loving, easy going couple, who are perfect for each other. We’re honored to document their love and look forward to shooting their wedding in May.

Thanks Cody and Kevin for coming out and giving us a hand!

I was recently contacted by a member of UCSD’s [N]motion hip hop dance team that I had shot several weeks ago. Julie was looking for a unique birthday gift for her Mom Susan, who was also involved in the performing arts. A personal photo shoot as a birthday gift was a great idea. Julie is one smart cookie for thinking up of such an appropriate and fitting present for her mom. I met Julie and Susan at a local coffee shop in downtown La Jolla on a Saturday afternoon. The weather was perfect with a slight overcast and a light breeze. Great natural lighting and no need to reach for the hairspray!

The first location we headed to was only a couple blocks from the coffee shop. Susan was a natural in front of the camera and posed beautifully with little direction.

After finishing up at the first location, we walked over to the beach for a few more shots.

Although this was a personal portrait shoot, my favorite pictures was when Julie joined her mother in front of the camera. The shoot went very smoothly. The weather was in our favor and Susan and Julie were great clients and a pleasure to work with. I hope you enjoy the photos!

Wow it’s been a busy couple of weeks. Sorry for the lack of updates. Well lets start off where we kind of ended. Everyone else has formally introduced themselves in previous blog posts and I seem to be left to do so. My name is Paul and I’m a photographer and graphic designer in the San Diego Area. I’m currently tackling both my passions side by side. I studied graphic design in San Diego and got my Bachelor’s in Graphic Design at the Art Institute of San Diego. My day job is at a graphic design firm in little Italy. My work focuses mostly on packaging, branding and layouts. I get to work with fun products from companies like Sanrio, Disney, Nickelodeon, etc. My background in the art industry gives me a good working knowledge of image capture, manipulation, layout and production. I am a design geek and I love what I do.

(Below is a few photographs of some of the toy vinyl’s our team developed and designed from the ground up)

Like Jimmy, I’m also involved with the photography club at UCSD. I use my knowledge in design to help the organization make fliers and adverts to help promote the club. It’s a great organization where we learn from each other. One of our biggest fundraisers is to photograph portraits of graduating seniors from UCSD. It’s a great way to teach newer photographers to gain confidence and experience dealing with real clients. The more seasoned photographers “Main” the senior portrait session and the newer members of the club act as “assistants.” They tag along to help and to learn how to work with clients. This is something me and Jimmy are really involved in. We do our best to help teach others who have the same fascination (obsession) with photography but lack the experience or knowledge. Keep an eye out for some portrait sessions. Graduation season is coming up quick.

While shooting portraits are fun, my main focus lies in wedding photography. I enjoy shooting wedding photography because every wedding is as unique as the couple. There’s something wonderful and indescribable about a wedding. It is an exhilarating challenge to try to capture each moment in an attempt to describe that indescribable story of their love and affection in pictures.

Outside of the art and design world, I enjoy flying to NY to see Helmi, cooking, eating, reading and geeking out with computer games. I’m currently working my way through the Harry Potter series and seriously excited about the new version of Star Craft 2 that has come out.

As Paul mentioned in a previous post, the two of us are also pretty heavily involved with the day-to-day operations of UCSD’s official Photography club (www.ucsdphotoclub.com).  UCSD Photo.Club is a fully student-run photography organization that is dedicated to fostering creativity and improving the UCSD community’s photography know-how.  In addition to pursuing the technical aspects of photography, the club members have all become part of a quite tightly-knit social circle that routinely meets up for photo excursions, random food-runs, and even some late night studying.

The club is also well connected with our UCSD and local community, constantly on the look-out for ways that we are able to contribute to fundraisers and other philanthropic efforts.  We’ve teamed up with organizations such as Philanthro Productions, UCSD, and the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society in the past, providing their events with necessary and well appreciated photographic coverage.

So if there’s any aspiring photographers out there in the San Diego area that are looking for a nice group of awesome people to hang out with and talk photo…here we are :-)

Our involvement in the UCSD photography club gives us a number of neat perks and opportunities. We were asked to help photograph the NSU
(Nikkei Student Union) Culture show this past weekend. The event was filled with great acts showcasing the influence of Japanese culture both traditionally and in pop culture. The Taiko drummers(AsayakeTaiko) opened the show with dramatic beats and JIVE followed them with an amazing vocal performance. UCSD’s Odori (Fan Dancing) had tons of fans. [N]Motion’s hip hop dance routine was slick. Enjoy! Pew pew pew.
